Booking choice: The 45-minute guided tour, from $14 per person. Check dates Tour details
There are three ways in. Walk in on the €7 ticket and look around. Book an entry with an audio guide on your phone, from $10. Or join a live guide, from $14 in a group of up to 25 to $108 for a private hour.
We compared every Pantheon option on Viator by price, time inside, group size and what guests say they got from it.
The quick answer
Pick the $14 guided tour if it's your first visit: a live guide costs only $4 more than the audio ticket. Pick the audio guide if you hate groups or have small children who won't stand still. Pick a small group of 10 (from $48) if you want questions answered. Go on your own only if you already know the story, or if you just want ten minutes under the dome.

What is the difference between a guided tour, an audio guide and going alone?
A guide explains and answers; an audio guide explains at your pace; going alone costs €7 and gives you the room without the story.
Side by side, with 2026 from-prices:
| On your own | Audio guide | Live guide | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | €7 | $10 to $19 (official audioguide €17) | $14 to $108 |
| Time inside | 10 to 40 min | 30 to 45 min | 30 to 50 min |
| Group | You | You | 25, 20, 10 or private |
| Questions | No | No | Yes |
| Pace | Yours | Yours | The guide's |
| Bring | ID if the ticket is named | Phone, charged, and earphones | ID |
A live guide and reserved entry for $14: the cheapest way to hear the dome explained under it.
Check dates for the 45-minute guided tourIs a guided tour of the Pantheon worth it?
Yes, on a first visit. The building's best stories are invisible unless someone points: the drains, the dome's lighter stone, the sun on the doors on 21 April.
One guest on the semi-private tour said it well: without the guide "we would have waited in a super long line to get inside, walk in and marvel at the inside of the Pantheon and basically turn around and leave." The same guest listed what Paolo showed instead: "the drainage holes, to the crack, to the empty spaces along the wall and how it would have looked at different periods in time."
The time inside is short on every tour, between 30 and 50 minutes. A guide doesn't make the visit longer. It makes it denser.

How good are the Pantheon audio guides?
Good enough for most people. The Viator tickets put an audio guide on your phone at the meeting point; the chapter's official audioguide has 15 stops in 11 languages.
- Reserved entry with audio guide ($10): a host on Piazza della Minerva, right of the elephant statue, sets up the audio on your phone 10 minutes before your slot. Earphones are not included. Guests praise it; one wrote: "Listen to the audio guide! It's worth the extra knowledge."
- Hosted entry ticket ($19): a host with a white flag on Piazza Capranica, audio in several languages, no headphones provided.
- Official audioguide (€17 with entry): 45 minutes, 15 listening points, 11 languages, sold on pantheonroma.com.
Charge your phone. Bring wired or Bluetooth earphones. Download the audio on Wi-Fi if you can.

Timed entry with an audio guide on your phone for $10: your pace, your order, no group to follow.

The Crown Tours guided visit, from $14: 15 minutes on Piazza della Minerva, then 30 minutes inside, groups of up to 25 with headsets.
You meet by Bernini's elephant statue, left of the steps of Santa Maria sopra Minerva; look for purple Crown Tours t-shirts. Tickets carry your name, so the full names of everyone go in at booking, and you bring ID. Late arrivals are not guaranteed a place.
Twenty-five is a big group under one dome, and the headsets do the work. Guests don't seem to mind. One wrote: "You can also stay inside the Panthenon to continue to take photos at the end." That's the trick with every tour here: the guide leaves, you don't have to.

Small group, archaeologist or private: who needs them?
People who want to ask questions, or who don't like crowds of 20. The difference is group size and the guide, not access.
- Semi-private tour ($48, 50 min): Kirba Tours, Piazza Capranica, 10 guests at most, headsets for groups of 6 or more. ID is mandatory for adults and children.
- Tour with an archaeologist ($71, up to 1 hour): archaeologist Olga Di Cagno, 10 guests at most, from Piazza della Rotonda. One guest: "We had no idea that Neptune's first altar was on the backside and I'm pretty sure we walked past it the day before with no clue what we had just missed."
- Private tour ($108 per person, 1 hour): 30 minutes inside, then Piazza della Rotonda and Piazza della Minerva, only your group.
- Pantheon Elite Guided Tour ($48, 1 hour): the most-reviewed, up to 20 guests, about 40 minutes inside and 15 on the square.
Ten guests at most and an official guide, 50 minutes inside: the semi-private tour.
Check dates for the semi-private tourCan you see the Pantheon on your own?
Yes. Buy the €7 ticket, walk in, and give it 25 to 40 minutes. Ten minutes is enough to see it; it isn't enough to understand it.
Going alone works if you've read up first or are coming back for a second look. Start in the centre under the oculus, then walk the circle: the chapels, the high altar, Raphael's tomb, the kings in their niches. Our oculus and dome guide is a list of what to look for.
Buy the ticket on the Musei Italiani portal or at the office on the piazza. The ticket guide covers prices and free days.
Is the Basilica of Neptune tour worth adding?
If you like Roman ruins more than churches, yes. For $17 you get the Pantheon with an audio guide, then 30 guided minutes in the Hadrianic hall behind it.
The Gyde Tours visit starts at the west corner of the Pantheon, by the special entrance: about 40 minutes in the Pantheon with an interactive audioguide, then the Basilica di Nettuno, a Roman hall most visitors never see. Groups are capped at 15. The listing warns it isn't for claustrophobic travellers, and scarves and headphones aren't included. It has only 11 reviews so far, all 5 stars.

Which option suits kids, older travellers and first-timers?
First-timers: a live guide. Kids under 10: the audio guide. Anyone who tires easily: a short guided visit, then sit inside on your own.
Check the ages before you book. The Elite tour sells child places from 6 and youth places from 13. The semi-private tour needs ID for children too, and full names and ages at booking. The Crown Tours visit sells child places from 6. Under-18s enter free on the €7 ticket, which makes going alone the cheap option for families with teenagers.
Every option on this page is listed as wheelchair and stroller accessible. Inside, the floor is level and there are benches along the wall.
