Smart Roma Tour · Piazza della Minerva

A timed ticket and a guide on your phone

A host on Piazza della Minerva hands over your timed Pantheon ticket, sets up an audio guide on your phone and points you to the reserved-entry line. It suits people who want a guaranteed slot and their own pace, and who will remember to bring earphones.

Pantheon Reserved Entry with Audio Guide

About this experience

This is a ticket, not a tour. Smart Roma Tour meets you on Piazza della Minerva, on the right side of the elephant statue, 10 minutes before your entry time. The host checks your booking, gives you the ticket and loads the audio guide onto your phone at the meeting point. Then you walk round to the Pantheon and join the line for pre-booked tickets, which guests say moves far faster than the ticket queue.

What does the $10 add to the official €7 ticket? A slot when the official portal is sold out, a person who sorts things out if you're late, and the audio. Be clear-eyed about that audio: several guests report it is Rick Steves' Pantheon tour, which is free in the Rick Steves Audio Europe app. And earphones are not included, so without your own you'll be holding the phone to your ear.

For many people that's still the right buy. Guests write about walking past two-hour lines in high season, and the hosts get good marks for calling late travellers. One 1-star guest waited over 30 minutes in a line that barely moved, so "reserved" doesn't always mean instant. If you want someone to explain the dome in person, the Crown Tours guided visit costs only a few dollars more.

  • The lowest price on the site: from $10
  • Timed entry through the reserved-ticket line
  • Audio guide loaded onto your phone by the host
  • Go at your own pace and stay as long as you like
  • Wheelchair and stroller accessible, per the listing

What guests say

★★★★★

Tons of communication before about where to meet. We met and the guy confirmed our reservation, had us put an audio tour on our phones and then literally walked us right up the the front and we got right in. No wait at all.

The ticket you’re provided allows you to enter via the pre-booked queue, which even at busy times, is minimal. The light column inside is the highlight! I’d recommend sitting with the guide near the altar so you can take it all in.

Tickets were printed out and they explained how to download the audio app which was really insightful while we waited in line (made you look at the building from the outside ) and when we gained entrance.

We saw people waiting in line for tickets for two hours and we went right past them with our skip the line entry.

Tips before you book

  • Pack earphones. They're excluded, and three guests wrote that they wished they'd known.
  • Download the audio before you go inside if you can. Phone reception in a building with walls this thick is patchy.
  • Every traveller needs ID matching the booking name. Without it, the listing says, entry isn't guaranteed.
  • Early slots are calmer. A guest who entered at 13:45 found far more people by 14:30.
  • Check the official Musei Italiani portal first. If your slot is free there, €7 gets you the same entry.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a guided tour?

No. You get a timed entry ticket, a host who meets you and sets up the audio guide, and then you visit on your own. Earphones are not included.

Where do I collect the ticket?

On Piazza della Minerva, on the right side of the elephant statue, 10 minutes before your entry time. It's a short walk behind the Pantheon, not on the main square.

What's the difference from the official ticket?

The entry is the same. The official ticket is €7 on the Musei Italiani portal and free for under-18s; this version adds a host, a slot when the portal is sold out and a phone audio guide. Several guests report the audio is Rick Steves' free tour.

Does the listing offer a guided version?

The listing mentions an English guided option with an official guide, a visit to the Basilica of Neptune and entry from a special entrance. For that combination, compare the Gyde Tours Basilica of Neptune tour.
