Gyde Tours · Piazza della Rotonda
You see the Pantheon with an interactive audio guide, then a guide takes you into the Basilica of Neptune, the Roman hall built onto the back of the rotunda, whose rooms only opened to visitors in November 2025. It's the one tour here that shows you something most visitors walk straight past.

Behind the Pantheon, on Via della Palombella, stands a wall of Roman brick with a carved frieze of sea creatures. That is the Basilica of Neptune, a hall first raised under Agrippa and rebuilt under Hadrian, right against the back of the rotunda. Its rooms opened to the public on 25 November 2025 as Oltre il Pantheon (Beyond the Pantheon): marble fragments taken from the rotunda, frescoes, an 8th-century ciborium, scale models and a video mapping of the oculus.
Gyde Tours packages that with the main building. Your host waits by the west corner of the Pantheon, beside the special entrance. You get skip-the-line Pantheon tickets and about 40 minutes with an interactive audio guide, which surprised more than one guest by how good it was. Then come 30 minutes guided in the Basilica di Nettuno, with its own entry ticket included. One guest's guide there was an archaeologist.
Caveats. With 11 reviews, the 5.0 rating rests on a small sample. The listing warns it's not for anyone with claustrophobia, and you bring your own headphones and a scarf to cover up. Under-18s are listed in the infant band, so check the price for teenagers. And Turismo Roma lists the Oltre il Pantheon route until 31 December 2026: for a 2027 trip, check that the Basilica is still part of the offer before you book.
Your host stands at the west corner of the Pantheon, right beside the special entrance. The listing says you can also go in on your own with the instructions sent with the tickets.
Into the rotunda with your ticket and the interactive audio guide on your phone.
A guide leads you through the rooms behind the rotunda: Roman masonry, marble fragments, models and the later church furnishings.
You pass the fountain on Piazza della Rotonda as you leave.
★★★★★Highly recommended! I had an amazing visit to the pantheon. Especially the special access to the pantheon while skipping all the long queues. Also the Neptune Basilica is definitely under visited and I would absolutely recommend the guides.
★★★★★This tour is a MUST and one that so many people miss. The guide was an archeologist and very passionate. Seriously, this is worth every penny.(we didn’t have to queue!!!)
★★★★★I decided to buy it on a whim and LOVED it. Audioguide was the best one I have used yet, not only it just let us know where to go but also gave me fun facts.
